We are excited to meet you!
Students will get to know both of the instructors through collaborative efforts, substitute teaching, events and activities. For weekly lessons, students are placed with a teacher based on their level and availability.

Option between weekly lessons paid by semester, or individual lessons scheduled one at a time
Tuition is paid by semester. Payment must be made before the first class. Payment may be made in instalments if requested. E-transfer is the preferred method of payment.
Students are not obligated to purchase any books or sheet music, as they can borrow from the studio library. However, students should expect to buy theory books or purchase online theory courses.
If adult students do not want to book a weekly time slot, the alternative option is to book lessons one at a time. However, the available times will be unpredictable. Most adult students prefer this option. A time hasn’t been reserved for them, but they have complete flexibility. These times are usually weekday mornings or late evenings.
Lessons will not be reimbursed for student cancellations - in the case of a student cancellation, your options are to miss the class and lose the money, or to schedule a makeup. Teacher cancellations may be either made up or reimbursed at the choice of the student. Makeup classes may be with a different teacher than the student’s regular teacher if that is who has an opening in their schedule.
In the case of extended illness or another situation where many lessons were missed, we can make up the time during other students’ cancellations or during the summer. Lesson credits will expire on August 31 of any given academic year. Students can choose to pay for additional classes once they’ve used up all the lessons purchased. Students are allowed to change their weekly time, but times are first come first served, so there may be very limited options if a student wants to change their time mid-semester. If a student increases their lesson length or adds extra lessons, they will pay for the remainder of the semester at the time of the change.
Students will be provided with a tax receipt.
Clients can expect rates to go up slightly every year in order to keep up with inflation.
Tuition helps cover:
teachers - instruction time, lesson preparation and practice/rehearsal before events
facilities - rental and maintenance
instruments - initial cost, repair and regular tuning
lesson materials - sheet music purchases, stationery, printer ink, binders, notebooks and educational aids
administration - time spent on event organisation, billing, coordinating make-up classes and all forms of communication
Well-rounded musical education accelerates progress and results in stronger musicianship. The Royal Conservatory of Music (RCM) Certificate Program is a comprehensive and effectively sequenced program. Most students follow the RCM curriculum even if they choose not to do exams.
Students are encouraged to learn a variety of pieces from different styles and musical eras, including Baroque, Classical, Romantic and Modern, as well as Pop, Jazz and Traditional.
Technical exercises help to develop facility in different keys so that when students encounter challenging passages in repertoire, their fingers are strong, coordinated and already recognise the patterns. Most piano students work on Hanon exercises in addition to the RCM technical requirements.
Students are expected to do written theory work to reinforce concepts being learned at their instrument. Most students know both note naming systems - letter names and solfege. Beginner students do written theory, intermediate students do online theory and advanced students return to written theory.
Through participation in recitals, events, exams, festivals and informal performances, students gain comfort and confidence sharing their music with others.
A trained ear is necessary for activities such as sight singing, memorisation, ensemble playing, improvisation, and writing or arranging music.
Developing strong sight reading ability means students can read the score just as easily as reading a book!
Learning about historical influences help students make stylistically appropriate musical choices.
